Further discussion

The question I ask myself is, why, if David was a man after Gods own heart, did God endorse David's murder of Uriah and the theft of his beautiful bride? David lusted afterBathsheba, having observed her naked, and then after allowing her to mourn her husband, David took her to himself, and the fruit of their procreative activities, was none other than Solomon, the Wisest and Richest of all God's kings. If God was the author of monogamy David is the counter argument. Before we go further I should state that I have an extensive theological background and I am an ordained, though not practising minister. In a previous incarnation I felt I had the answer to my own question. However, now I'm not willing to give God the benefit of the doubt, for those things for which, He could have left a reasonable explanation.

Monogamy is there such a thing?

mo·nog·a·my:

It doesn't matter how you say it, the definitions below, suggest theres room for a little too much manipulation, for a state which is meant to be inflexible.

For example if one examines the Zoological definition below, one could conclude, that once they had finished their breeding cycle, they are free to move to a new relationship without violating an oath to be monogamous? This would in part explain why some change partners once the female enters menopause! On occasions where this occurs I question whether or not the female in question had an equal understanding of monogamy, perhaps she had a more conventional view "The practice of marrying only once in a life time."

Of course this doesn't clarify whether monogamy covers all sexual experiences, for example for some monogamy only begins at marriage, sexual congress prior to marriage does not preclude one from qualifying for a monagamous lifetime badge of honour. Still again there are those who prefer the first definition offered below.

The practice or condition of having a single sexual partner during a period of time.

The practice or condition of being married to only one person at a time.

The practice of marrying only once in a lifetime.

Zoology. The condition of having only one mate during a breeding season or during the breeding life of a pair.
